Tower Laboratories Corporation was founded through the vision of William Decker in 1996, who was both a friend of Dr. Linus Pauling and a contributor to the Linus Pauling Institute of Science and Medicine. Pauling told Decker that in his opinion, lipoprotein (a) [a very sticky form of LDL cholesterol] and not ordinary LDL cholesterol was the true culprit in occlusive cardiovascular disease. Pauling mentioned experiments that were ongoing at that time at the Linus Pauling Institute and told Decker, "If the outcome of Lp(a) experiments turns out as we expect, the entire problem of cardiovascular disease can be eliminated."
